Highlighting the Connection Between the Photographer and the Subject
Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., is a historically African American sorority founded on November 12, 1922, at Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana, by seven educators. Its mission focuses on enhancing the quality of life for women and their families through community service, education, health awareness, and leadership development, with the slogan “Greater Service, Greater Progress.”
The Sigma Gamma Rho chapter at Southern Illinois University Carbondale is part of the National Pan-Hellenic Council and is listed among the sororities under SIU’s Fraternity and Sorority Life. The specific chapter name is recognized as an active organization on campus.
